Preparing New Version
« on: December 04, 2008, 04:56:11 pm »
What would it take to bring Geubuntu up to 8.10 level, on par with Intrepid?  I'm enjoying Geubuntu on my Hardy box (except for the sound disappearing somehow), but want to try it on my current prod box.

I'm sure the thought is much the same, what is involved with making a 9.04 Jaunty Geubuntu?

Long story short -- is there a way I can put my computer to use to help compile packages or what not to help out in creating the newer versions?

NM.  Looks like the powers that be are already hard at work on this.  I see there is an Intrepid repository, even though its not advertised.  I haven't moved up to Jaunty yet, so no idea whether that's ready...

The Intrepid official release will be anytime now, depending on when Quaker and Jeff are going to upgrade Enlightenment. It will be code name Luna Serena and as for the rest it's almost completed. There will not be any alpha or beta stages, I consider the hardy release as the beta for Luna Serena. There isn't any experimental change, that is. Sure, OpenGEU grew a lot for Luna Serena, in many ways, but all of the new features are already being integrated in Luna Crescente.
You'll see only a pair of major upgrades, on the user side. One is already in Luna Crescente, the new OpenGEU Themes Manager, with a new look, more usable and less chaotic, based on the new e17-settings-daemon by Quaker!
The second major upgrade is a surprise... not for all computers, but you're gonna love it veeeery much if you have a 3D card :D !!! Ah, and let's not forget about the great Places module by Dave ;)
Naturally, there have been many many upgrades on the code side, things not shown to the user.

As for Jackalope, I'm working with ArtPulse (Pablo N.) on new OpenGEU themes and UI. It will be, I hope, a very deep user experience and we'll focus on usability, trying to simplify everything a bit, to have people run OpenGEU with even more pleasure. You're gonna like OpenGEU Quarto di Luna ;)
Bye bye!!

Well , I wait for this new version before reinstalling OPenGEU again.
If the surprise is that i imagine, just say that works great on my computer ;D.
Thank you all for your invaluable efforts.
Greetings:
Agust

Sorry people, Quaker didn't update the repo in time... which means, all the packages are ready and online but he didn't upgrade the packages list.. so your systems cannot see the new packages... :|
I'm very sorry, he said he will do it tomorrow. I know I used to manage the upgrades alone once, but since Quaker is not the repo mantainer, if he doesn't md5sum his packages, an error occurs at upgrade, since when we have the repo key.... someone may remember this issue from some weeks ago. When I didn't know I couldn't upgrade packages on my own anymore..  :-[

Hey that's great.  When can we download the new version as an iso?
I love OpenGeu, however, due to the hardware in my new laptop it will not run unless the base system is at least intrepid 8.10.
Many thanks
Garry

I'll create the iso as soon as I have a moment to breath, but it is perfectly ok to install Ubuntu Intrepid and then install OpenGEU from packages over it! Just wait tomorrow afternoon for the release. You'll know by the official website :)
