Hello:

I reinstalled OpenGEU from the 8.0.4 CD distribution. Fixed the policykit-gnome problem. Fixed the GPG problem with the repositories. Then I let the system update all the packages it wanted to. I let it go for a while then when I went back I was at the login prompt - beautiful graphical login prompt with a new background image. I logged in and was immediately brought to a black screen with a b/w terminal window in the upper left.

If I exit that, I go back to the login screen. I tried a full reboot, same problem. If I type 'startx' in the terminal window, it says "X: user not authorized to run the X server, aborting" then "Couldn't get a file descriptor referring to the console" which may be unrelated.

Any ideas of how to fix?

Thank you.

OK.. I could have tried a LITTLE harder before posting.... In the login window I had to click 'session' and choose a new type of session. For some reason after the update the default attempt to reload the last used session failed in the way I described.

and as long as I'm filling up space here, after the update there was one broken package: geutheme. I was notified by the system to look into it, and the fix seems to be to install etkchanger (v. 0.2).
