« on: April 21, 2009, 12:28:12 pm »
hi all my name is Imran ....i m new to this forum...this is my first post ...so please go easy on me..

last  night i made the bold move to switch from Vista to Linux...and  i m happy about that...i was confused as to which distribution would work fine for me...so i downloaded Ubuntu 8.10 , Kubuntu 8.10 , MoonOS , OpenGEU 8.10 live CDs....i tried all of them....and finally....because i was used to watching the graphic effects of vista hence i settled on OpenGEU 8.10.

so far so good.....

Problem 1 : i have internet connection at university(windows) not at home where linux is installed....hence comes the problem of downloading packages ...if u guys can find me a solution as to how can i download packages on to  a USB from the internet and transfer them onto linux....

NOTE : please do not give solutions of downloading and installing any softwares on windows..as i cannot install any software on university computers(university software ploicy)

problem 2 : i was searching on the net and came across Ecomorph.... would like to install it and use it....but i dont know how to install and where to get it from .....if anyone can please guide me the directions of step by step installation ...i would be grateful....please take into consideration problem no 1 ...that i dont have an internet connection at home (linux).

thank you..

Imran

To the best of MY knowledge you need to be online for the updates.  Via those updates, you get the E17 and Ecomorph updates.

So as far as having access to the update files, it is best that you connect the computer to the internet.  It is much simpler as I can tell you right now that as a newby, it is quite an undertaking to figure out what updates you need when there are hundreds of files updated after the initial install from the Ubuntu & E17 repositories.  If you can do that, then you are no newb.... thou art the MAN!!!

If you installed OpenGEU 8.10... and you have 3D hardware acceleration drivers you should be able to choose the Ecomorph option under Session on the login screen... I am going to out of a limb here and say it wont work until you connect to the web and download the proper drivers to enable 3D HW acceleration from NVIDIA or ATI.

Good Luck... I certainly don't know how to download the updates from the repositories, let alone choosing the right ones to install...

racerraul is correct about connecting to the internet although you can download the packages individually but it takes too long.

As for Ecomorph, just run the E17 + Ecomorph session when you boot the computer.  Hopefully your hardware will support it.
