scheduled theme switch?
« on: September 25, 2008, 06:06:36 pm »
Greetings, I recently adopted an old laptop, so I had finally an excuse to install the newest opengeu. Great stuff! Both themes are marvelous, and beautiful in opposite ways. This got me thinking...would it be possible to have the theme automatically switch between the two depending on the time of day? I.E. I would like to have the sunshine theme on during the day and have it automatically switch at a certain time. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

Sorry for the weird request  ;)

I was thinking it'd be cool that the system would switch from Sunshine to Moonlight theme according to the local time... Course, with an On/Off switch and some basic configs.

The only "con" I see is when u're doing something quite heavy on your computer, and suddenly the theme starts witching - collapse xD. That's why I guessed Luca would not like it... Anyway, =D

It's not like I don't like this.. it would be fine, I guess. The problem is that for now there are many, many new things we are trying to complete and achieve.. the biggest problem and priority for now, for example, is we have no repo anymore!
A thing monitoring the local time, would be a daemon. Or a module acting like a daemon. It would surely affect a little the eprformance, since it would always have to stay in background.. but only a little, of course. So no need for on off switch. Because you can just choose whether to load or unload this module ;)
So we'll definitely make it in the future. Just give us some time, we have so many things we'd like to do and so few developers and money :(

For example, as many of you may know, I'm investing now the money I got from donations to complete the coding of the Enlightenment File Manger, which will give us a faster file manager, directly integrated in E17, with native desktop icons and more, so much more. Plus, this will incredibly speed up the release of the final E17 version. EFM is a show stopper right now.

Unfortunately, I'm in holidays now and on my EeePC I haven't got an extra deb to upload. :(
When I return home (on 15th) I'll re-upload it.

Mike,

I installed the switcher.  Seems to work, thanks.  However, I noticed when I got up this morning that there were a whole bunch of change screensaver dialogs open on my computer.  Don't know if it's connected or not.
