Where is my network?
« on: January 07, 2008, 12:14:21 pm »
Hi,

Love the Enlightement/XFCE interface but I have one small (I hope) problem.  Where can I find/access other machines/resources etc on my home network.  If I boot with a Linux Mint Live CD, under "Places" there is a "Network" option which shows my other boxes and I can connect and share with them.  Where is the equivalent under the Geubuntu LIve CD.  Is there an equivalent or do I v=have to install to get this functionality.

(By the way - Geubuntu is the first distro I have tried which has enabled by Atheros 5006EG onboard wifi card "out of the box".  Well Done!   ;D)

I have the same "problem". I have no problem mounting a Windows share or another filesystem through command line, but sometimes I'd like to simply browse the network for what I need.

Any help is appreciated.

I figured out what was wrong - I had my desktops set in 2x2 grid, so the panel would automatically disappear, since moving mouse to the edge would cause the desktop to switch. Once I've set them back to 4x1, the panel appeared again.

To have some extra network tools in E17, into openGEU, just download the:
opengeu-share
package. Use
sudo apt-get install opengeu-share
and then you'll find a new network browser in your network applications (E --> Applications --> Network)

Is there a way we can get that by default.

Well not really TekMate... It is already a suggsted package, if I should add it to the iso then it wouldn't fit anymore :(
So I cannot put it in the iso by default. But it is suggested by default when someone installs OpenGEU...

Strange this is what I get:
apt-get install opengeu-share
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package opengeu-share is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package opengeu-share has no installation candidate
