Hi,
When I use synaptic to update the Geubuntu package, do I need to run the"geubuntu-configuration" each time

No you don't
From the wiki, you only have to run it once, when you install OpenGEU for the first time
If you upgraded from geubuntu to opengeu you have to run opengeu-configuration once. The you don't need to run it anymore.
