OpenGEU's future and Ubuntu vs Debian

I would like to simply give an idea.
Why not make a OpenGEU, based on Unity Linux??? "Mandriva"
It simply would create a Branches , as they call them.
The repo E17, are always updated and it works pretty well.
The team Unity Linux would help with the problems you have, sure.(Are very good people)
So have a good team with you and not depend on one person.

hi all

first, i voted to debian hoping there will be a lot more stability, y had 2 weeks installed karmic based releases (mint, ubuntu...)
they were a pain in the ass xDD always crashing for no reason, i never has a real contact with debian so i hope i works better.
i'm currently using the 8.10 opengeu, works fine, but i want to upgrade, just because the boot in my old pc is a little slow, there are problems with the 9.10 also here?

(the karmic releases i tasted booted a little faster,so that is my question)

The problem with 9.10 is that our compiled E17 keeps on segfaulting for reasons we are trying to investigate... not clear why it acts this weirdly.

If you can make Opengeu even more faster and stable, i'm sold! I got no other requirements for OS, just that it is fast and stable(and has enlightenment)

he has a repository of e17 for Debian, though not quite as complete as Quaker's

Last week I did a Deb netinstall of LXDE in VirtualBox. After installing and updating, I installed svn e17. Took a while to download and compile, but it was worth it. And it was dead simple.

I would be really glad  if OpenGEU switches to Debian. It will indoubtedly grant the most  stable and free environment.  Yes, Please, do it.

Yeah, Ubuntu has so many patches and weird workarounds... it is really way slower than Debian.

Debian is known to be much faster. Ubuntu is known to be more beginner friendly.

The other point I really want to stress is that for OpenGeu to gain more users is that we need to concentrate on making OpenGeu as beginner friendly as possible. There are lots of new users switching to Linux and they need a distro that is beginner friendly. That is why Ubuntu became so popular. But even Ubuntu could be more user friendly, I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 and had a @&#* of a time trying to get multimedia support. I got audio working but I still have broken DVD support. OpenGeu needs to be user friendly from the start. Most new users will be new to Linux as well, experienced Linux users would much prefer Fedora or Slackware over Opengeu.

To answer your question, the next OpenGEU will be built on Debian.

As for your statement about being user friendly, the OpenGEU developers designed tools to make configurations as easy as possible in E17.  I'm sure this will not be much of an issue.
