Android Tablet as art-device pack of ideas

(1/1)

Alessandro:
It's seems like Android support natively touch pressure; so my guess is that soon we'll get many tablet aimed to artist.

If we think about it desktop computing isn't suitable for artist: don't get me wrong... probably nearly all digital artist sit on desktop to make their work done... but just because you're used to it doesn't meat that was the best solution.
Tablet from the handy size of 7~10 inch (sketching notebook) or even bigger 20~30 inch tv-like panel to put on easel: now... that's the way to make art!

So, let's not wait for Apple to come and patent/locking everything up to ensure that innovation will be forced only on iStuff

Here's some idea of mine that if aren't not yet patented can be considered prior art if no one has already patented them.

Hence I declare that these ideas of mine and everything posted in this thread (where not prior art before this post 06/08/2012 +1 GMT) are to be considered Open Source, public domain and free for all (can't be patented by anyone).

Hey, don't look me funny, just ensuring the obvious :P

1. Pressure zoom and "zoom bookmark"
Two buttons in vertical or horizontal (zoom in, zoom out) allow you to zoom in both direction based on how much strength pressure do you use to push them. More strength used to press = more fast do you zoom in that direction (in or out). Sliding outside the direction of the screen allow you to "save" or "bookmark" the zoom level, sliding inside instead allow you to hide zoom buttons and only your bookmarks will appear.

2. augmented reality painting (probably prior art ahead, please report if you find something before this date).
simple rule: zoom in/out and image panning is controlled with augmented reality with the use of back camera or any other device allow "augmented reality" effect.
Now, since humans have only two hands it can be weary to use one hand to pan/zoom (hold the device) and the other draw. So I thought to extended a bit the idea (now it will be hard for me to explain... but I'll try anyway)

advanced rule: augmented reality with brush dynamics. You hold the device firmly with both hands and only your thumbs can touch the screen, you could still paint but you're very limited. The solution I suggest is that zoom and panning this time allow you to "move" the imaginary brushes under your thumbs. Hum... quite hard to explain: imagine the target of jet fighter... the bull's eye are your two thumbs which press on the screen. The "target" (thumb) is always on the screen but don't fire until you take action (press fire button) which in our case is a certain zoom level: it's like if you move enough close (zoom in) to an "imaginary" canvas your thumbs will paint only when "touch" it.

There are two side effects which can be used for good additionally to this idea.
1. You have two thumbs: mean you have two different brushes you can use independently! a pencil brush and an eraser brush? You can set and exchange anytime but most importantly... you can use both of them in real time
2. You have two pressure axis now: I don't talk about the two thumbs, but the additional "pressure" you have with zoom (if you "push inside" your tablet in the imaginary canvas). For example thumbs pressure on screen can scale the size (or any other effect) of the brush while "zooming inside the canvas" increase opacity. These two pressure axis combined can achieve unique effects!

That's enough for now.
I have some more other idea, but due my bad english make me unsure... I'll try to explain better those idea if you tell me which part are most obscure and need additional clarification.

Hopefully Mypaint could be ported to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (or the Note altered to run Linux).
