I just got to play with this and have to say it is very nice for quick simple sketching that requires no specific size.
I got drawn to it mainly because of the unlimited canvas feature.

my suggestions...
-ability to rotate canvas like in corel painter
-keyboard shortcuts editor
-auto naming (if not already saved) on file save and where to save it... option for it in setting and ability to set it your own naming (specific name, date prefix, etc)
-ability to reference an image... ability to scale and rotate that reference image independently from your main drawing surface.

that's it
thanks for the wonderful work

Already there, look in the View menu.

Already there. Hover mouse pointer over the menu item and press the key you want to assign. The rotate menu items are good to try this out on, since they don't have any shortcuts assigned.

Basic functionality already there, see "Save Scrap" in the "File" menu. The options are in "Edit" -> "Settings" -> "Paths"

This is unlikely to ever be in MyPaint. http://wiki.mypaint.info/Documentation/FAQ

Now, what we actually[\i] need is some documentation! For example a comprehensive manual:

While it does rotate if you use the options in that menu I think whatta might be speaking of Painters ability to free rotate with the pen or mouse.  In most versions of painter this is done by pressing a specific key and then rotating the canvas to any degree you choose.  Whereas the rotate clockwise/counterclockwise options in MyPaint are at intervals.

It's possible that this idea might be less viable with the infinite canvas in MyPaint however.  I remember a similar option in another software were there was just a small slider on the window somewhere that controlled the rotation of the image.

Btw, shift + scroll up/down will also rotate.
That the rotation is in steps is due to performance considerations.

See now that's one I haven't been able to figure out yet.  Thanks for that.  (This is more than good enough for me.)  So I was correct about it just not being viable.  I think that accounts for all of whattas viable features then.

There are quite a bit of useful things that almost only devs know about =\
As for more interactive rotation it can probably be solved, but its not entirely trivial.

I just noticed you can do this when holding Ctrl-Space. (I also thought it was disabled, but it isn't.)

Nice. No performance problems with that here, even though the file was pretty big.

Thanks for all the replys.
Rotation works nice but is there a way to reset it back to the original position?

Also, is there a way to change the format for saving scraps?
ora is nice but any other programs I use do not support it. I would like to be able to save it as png, tif, etc.

F12

Unfortunately it resets the zoom level too.
