Quinn's Art
« on: January 27, 2011, 11:58:07 am »
Hey guys been mucking around on MyPaint for a while now and lurking around this forum for a little less then that. Like everyone else that uses the software seems to think, I cannot seem to go without it anymore. The finish I get on my digipaintings seems to be far more attractive then I have ever achieved with either Photoshop or The Gimp. Also loving some of the stuff I have seen on these forums, looks like a great community to join.

Heres a couple of pieces I've done recently:

Hi Komica,
It is nice to see pictures like this, good design on creatures and well rendered. I like the situation of the warrior haaa, poorr man. What are you able to do with Gimp or photoshop? show me examples :D

Hi Shock,
Its you who put together GPS and the Ramon brush set right?

These are from a while ago, didn't realize I had put such large images up.

This guy was done in Photoshop:

The Gimp:

I still managed to get a nice finish with both programs, but from what I remember Photoshop was an absolute pain, especially for its absence in decent colour choosing dialogs. Gimp is nice and I will often bounce images back and forth between it and MyPaint, but I find the ability that MyPaint has to smear existing colour makes it the better option for the majority of the painting.

hi Komica ,
Yes i am the GPS creator and maker of Ramon set, nice to meet you.
I see your pictures and there is not a real difference in terms of quality. so you can paint probably batter on Gimp due his color selector. much more complex than PS. btw i like your characters, i dont know why, but they are not boring. maybe you could have a better pictures taking care of edges. There are hard , soft, crispy edges and the combination of these gives you more than the all fuzzy edges. imho.

Well, this is not the right forum for GIMP but , sorry Maxy there we go a bit of Spam! XD
Gimp is a very very interesting software and you are very lucky because the new BETA of GPS 1.5 is available . http://code.google.com/p/gps-gimp-paint-studio/downloads/detail?name=GPS_1_5_0_beta_release.zip&can=2&q=
it has lot of new things. that can´t be covered right here .but i tell you that GPS is doing a massive use of something called GimpPainter which is a fork of gimp that can be downloaded from..http://sourceforge.jp/projects/gimp-painter/releases/?package_id=6799/
so if you added GPS to the GImpPainter you will have acomplete suite for painting for FREE. nice uh?

anyquestions to my mail. take care.

Nice to meet you too Shock, email has been sent.
What you say about edges is right, I've been slowly trying to force myself out of my comfort zone to rough things up a bit and achieve a bit more depth in the image so you should see more of this hopefully in the near future. And I'm very glad you enjoy my characters :)

Btw would you prefer if I called you Shock or Ramon?

Just so you know, I have absolutely no problem with pointers to GPS here. It's very much on-topic.
