My rant was more general in nature ;) We are all noobs at something, dont see the point of bringing this up. Thats it. I dont feel offended ;) I wish you just considered that some of us just like program itself and - doesnt matter on what system - dont like/know/want to play with building stuff.
Personally I dont know how to deal with it and I dont intend to learn. Why? Because I want to learn many, many other things and this isnt on my list. You cant learn everything and if you dont like something you can be sure that learning it would be painful and possibly fruitless. I hate everything that is technical in nature and even moderately touches mathematics. So again, thank you for making possible for people like me JUST download stuff and jump onto creation. Back to learning better anatomy. With help of MyPaint of-course.

Fair enough,

I'd like to hand over the maintenance of mypaint for windows, don't think that I do this because of that infact I've planned this and knew someone who eager to help but it was months ago via private chat in mypaint's IRC shortly after version 1.0. Now, I openly ask.

my proposal is:
Put this buildenv to a new googlecode project so that everyone could monitor progress, submit report and participate more efficiently. Then make a few wiki pages based on existing guidelines. I believe a lot people are more than capable to maintain this buildenv. In worst case scenario I'm willing to help (for compiling issue).

Of course these can also be done without my involvement, but just in case do mail me (this the proper way to contact me)

I've do my best that the these (hopefully) would be as painless as possible by wrote detailed "the hard way" guide in case current buildenv become insufficient. I believe providing builds is small part of the whole development, so I highly respect them especially maxy.

I admit my current approach is not elegant (and looks like not many people willing to comment at the blog either). Moreover last night I see an excessive downloads from buildenv which feared me whether my 2nd dropbox account will get suspended too which has been a nightmare for my whole blog not long ago. I wish I could upload it myself to googlecode but my slow home connection prevent that from ever happening. So I think this is the best for all.

Again that "typical attitude" arguments of mine before is an honest feeling from being experiencing it and facing it. As blunt as "right back at you" statement I have no regret for saying that, it's more like a relief to let it go. But I apologize for bringing noob wording because IMHO it's quite common in IRC that we'd call ourself noob to get better explanation from gurus so I'm surprised by nezumi's reaction and possibly others.

looking forward
(should i put this as new thread?)

ah wrong again
I meant you should move everything inside that [whataver_named] folder to outside (into root of src folder).
in short: make sure no a folder inside src folder
ahh  I guess my english ruined

anyway this captcha surely hard to guess  :'( take me 3 times

Thanks once again for the answer!
The thing is that I did exactly this way! I really follow carefully the instructions written on the website, and had this issue. I tried with exactly the same way on my company's computer which is on Windows XP and didn't have this problem... So I'm little confused and don't understand the problem... Anyway... With Ion12's link, everything works fine! :)

@tumagonx : I'd be happy to try and help out. Perhaps you should indeed open this "proposal" as a new thread?

It may be that it... isnt IRC :D

Thank you very much for the build environment.

I'm nowhere near having any kind of programmer or coder mindset, i'm just a humble 2D/3D artist, and being a Window XP user i was in despair to see my favorite painting app, MyPaint getting new great and much needed features (symmetry painting and line tool) and none making any windows build from it.

Then seeing this thread, i decided to give a try to the new up to date environment as the build someone kindly uploaded wasn't working at all on my computer :
http://opensourcepack.blogspot.fr/2009/08/building-mypaint-in-windows.html

Then got to http://gitorious.org/mypaint/mypaint and meeting only 503 error , then enabled scripts for the page (using noscript as usual on my firefox it was preventing the page to work) to finally get to the "Tree Source" button and finally the desired "download master as .tar" button.

Then extracted accordingly to what the environment readme says and launched the build_portable.bat full of hope.
Noticed a few error messages in the dos window, making me wonderig what it was going to end with, going to fast to really notice what it was, but in the end it seemed to work, in the win32 folder i had a working version of MyPaint !

I tried, checked to see if that symmetry painting was working (found it Mypaint->Edit , then added the button in the toolbar for quicker access) and oh boy !
That's so magnificent and working that i had nearly a tear in my old eyes :D while mouse painting around.

Though there's nothing showing where exactly is that symetry axis on the canvas (bug ? problem with the build ? me missing a button enabling to see that axis ? ) but it 's working great.

Thank you so much for sharing this environment thing with us non-coder and windows users.

Really this update of Mypaint for the symetry button alone is really something to try.
