Language Setting help
« on: June 20, 2010, 10:20:09 am »
My Os is Windows XP In japanese, but I want to set Mypaint's language to English.
I am a native english speaker, I can read japanese but not perfectly. Especially If i am trying
to learn a new software package. it would really help to be in English.

I tried making a bat file to set the language to English and then open the Exe.
(This worked for gimp)
Like this.

set lang=en
start mypaint.exe

The tool settings on the right were partially in english but all the menus were still in japanese. :(

I also tried
env LANG=en_EN ./mypaint.exe
start mypaint.exe

Same result. I am not that techy. so I am not really sure what to do. Any suggestions?

MyPaint looks great BTW cant wait to really get stuck into it.

why you not change the folder "ja" located in MyPaint\pixmaps\share\locale to any other name so the program can not locate it.

Sorry for my bad english

That worked thankyou!
In
C:\Program Files\MyPaint\share\locale
I renamed the Ja folder and it automatically switched to english.
It would be nice to have a menu item to switch language.

Now I can experiment! thank you. :)

MyPaint uses the same system as GIMP for translation (gettext). It honors the LANG environment variable on GNU/Linux, so I'm not sure why it does not on Windows. I will try to ask our Windows maintainer about this.
