For fun I tried tor run the OpenGEU Luna Serena livecd on a useless laptop (I still have not found the problem with it yet).  It loaded in about 2 minutes and was barely responsive.  Surprisingly when I loaded the Ubuntu 9.04 RC livecd it took about 70 seconds and was more responsive.

That sounds cool... almost as if they have trimmed the fat (for lack of better terms).

Cool, I think that they did some good change on Ubuntu itself. In this case I'm confident that we'll be able to have a very fast OpenGEU too Smiley
E17 is way lighter than Gnome, so... Wink

That's all thanks to the ext4 file system. It's fast as hell, my machine boots in about 32 seconds whereas it booted in 1 minute with 8.10.
Also when I open my folder with my pictures I took during my trip in Greece ( something like 3000 photos ) the thumbnails appear immediately; in 8.10 I had to wait a bit.
Quarto di Luna will support ext4 too won't it?

My test was 8.10 and 9.04 livecds (with SquashFS) so most of the speed improvements were to the operating system itself.  But yes, ext4 is slightly faster and because OpenGEU uses Ubiquity and the Ubuntu kernel so ext4 will be available at install.
