I really don't mean offence to anyone when I say this but...   does anyone know of any good themes for E17?  I really like E17 and it clearly has a lot of potential to use well-designed themes; but the only ones I have found so far are really awful.   I do realise that the people creating these themes are generally computer programmers not graphic designers, so I don't mean to be too critical.  But they really are rubbish.

The default ones that come with OpenGEU are the worst ever, and the ones I can find on Xchange and E17-look are generally no better.  What I think is needed (if E17/ OpenGEU is ever to be used by people other than stylistically-challenged nerds) are some proper grown-up themes along these lines:

If anyone knows of any please let me know.  Thanks.

PS - I know people will say that good design is a matter of taste, but this is not true.  You may personally think that wearing custard yellow trousers, a pink t-shirt, black tie, silver running shoes and a tweed flat cap looks good, but you will most definately not be dressed fashionably or stylishly.

If you don't like what is available then make your own theme.  Unfortunately for you E17 is pre-alpha software and the only people writing E17 themes are generally the same people making the OpenGEU themes.  As for taking offense, I won't as I will be creating my own theme for personal use as soon as the the api is stable.

Well roshichris , links to themes that you propose (Ubuntu) these themes if they are really horrible.
The themes of OpenGEU + My themes are really fantastic, the problem is you, it tastes horrible.
Luckily there are very few people like you and your tastes.
If you do not like themes, you realize that we check every one for his art.

Ah! No offense is my opinion.
Greetings:

This is surely a wind-up post, a prank designed to challenge, to attack. At the very least its strange that a newbie should be so blatant in their bad manners.
It is really OK not to like the OpenGEU themes, but only a spammer would openly rubbish them all of them. Good taste and good manners should go together.

I might have spoken too soon.  The new themes look great.

Yeah, I think the post was meant to be provocative. After following the links, I got the sense that he was saying, in a subtle way, that there is no way you can create better-looking themes for Linux than you can with commercial products for Windows. Having used both for a number of years, I'd have to disagree, if that is what he meant. However, even if it were true, it still WOULD NOT influence my decision to choose Linux over Windows.

My decision goes way beyond appearances. My decision is based on security, usability, stability, responsiveness, and adaptability. It is based on the world-class kernel that is improving at an impressive speed. It is a world-class kernel that runs on everything from watches to most of the top 100 supercomputers.

I DO NOT like being pestered with license keys, re-registration sessions of the same product, DRM, spyware-checker updates, virus-checker updates, Adobe updates, Firefox updates, Microsoft application and "security" updates, etc, etc. As far as the ability to customize the desktop environment, Linux wins hands down. Unequivocally. Windows does not give you the choice of a window manager. When one considers how many desktop environments there are for Linux, the possibilities are endless.
